Integrating TotalLMS 7.6 with Custom MD5 SSO Integration

Our organization is currently in the middle up upgrading from Docent 6.5 to TotalLMS 7.6. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with integrating SSO with the TotalLMS using the MD5 authentication settings. There is documentation on setting up and using the security, but it really doesn't give you any ideas of how your application's can redirect traffic, create TotalLMS cookies, or pass credentials for a guest user into the TotalLMS. Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Dan

Domains

As we plan our conversion to TotalLMS. We are discussing how to organize our domains. At one point in time, I was told to only put the overall system administrators in the Global domain. That we should create a "company" domain that is the overall containter.

If you have any lessons learned on this process, I am very interested in hearing them.

Les

Captivate and TotalLMS 7.X

Is anyone loading Captivate lessons to their LMS successfully? I have been trying to load a successful lesson every since we converted from Docent to TotalLMS. My issue is that the lesson does not mark complete once fully gone through the lesson and was hoping someone has the secret to making this work.
Thank you,

Reporting Tools for SumTotal 7.X

Hi There

We are going to be implementing a SumTotal 7.6 environment shortly and we are trying to evaluate the best reporting tool to be used in conjunction with the LMS. It would be very helpful if you could provide any feedback for what works well.

Thanks!

Recent change to the Sumtotal Systems CPC...

I just noticed on this week's pass through the CPC, that they've added an additional column to the 'search results' format, they've now added 'publish date' to the displayed fields. The list can now be sorted by that column.

Not sure if this is something configurable in the reference implementation of the TotalLMS 7.x interface, or if they've done this as a 'special'. The reported version of the system is still on build 2625, so this is still the 'standard 7.6 build.

There is still some work to be done, as the 'publish date' appears fragile and easily 'touched', in some documents that show recent publish dates seem ones unlikely to have been recently updated (such as a document for Aspen 2.0).

Upgrade 6.5 to 7.x

So I was snooping around on CPC and I found a document titled 'Upgrading from Docent to SumTotal 7.x'. It pretty much looks like SumTotal wants to be involved in any upgrade to 7.x. Does this sound about right? Has anyone had any experience with this and how do they handle your customizations. I was at TotalConnection this past week and it seems that all customizations, installations around 7.x are done using professional services. Just looking for some feedback to see what everyone else is doing.

Thanks,
Dan

Using WebEx inside SumTotal's LMS

Does anyone here use WebEx within SumTotal? If you do, do you have a best practices list of how you do it?

The way we are running, we have to set up start times 15 minutes before we actually want to begin the class. SumTotal literally reads whatever time you put as the start and will not allow folks into the session before the official start time.

For example, if a class starts at 2:00 PM, we enter 1:45 PM so that people can get in early.

Thanks for the help.

Use of Oracle RAC for 7X platforms

Hi There

Has anyone installed a 7X platform on an Oracle RAC environment?

We are currently working through the Setup procedure and have found the entire intallation process is combined withn one installation process.

Unfortunately in our environment we need to seperate out Web Server installs from Database installs.

Please let me know if you have run into this issue and how you resolved it.

It would also be great if you could let me know if you have run into issues with Oracle Directories?

Many thanks

Shared Activities Roster not visible at lower domains.

With the new “fixed bug” in 7.2, if we share an activity with a lower domain, local administrator cannot see the shared activity roster icon. Therefore, is not easy for those administrators to see who is registered in a class other that using Report Manager or giving access to the Global domain to those administrators. Right now, they have to call the upper level domain administrator to get an exported roster file.

We could give the local administrator the right to see the Global domain, but we would like to avoid giving them full access to see the training records of the other domains by using the Manager mode.

LMS Manager open position at Buckman Laboratories

We have an open position for an LMS Manager at the Buckman Laboratories headquarters in Memphis, TN.

The LMS Manager will have a far more interesting job than just keeping up with records: we are upgrading to TotalLMS 7.2 and making global use of its capabilities, creating policies, structuring courses and curricula in the catalog, offering consulting and support to international local administrators, and communicating / problem-solving with our internal clients, internal IT, and vendors.

Buckman Laboratories is a chemical company with offices in 18 countries and known as a pioneer in Knowledge Sharing. Buckman has been consistently named as one of the Training Top 100 by Training Magazine.
