As we plan our conversion to TotalLMS. We are discussing how to organize our domains. At one point in time, I was told to only put the overall system administrators in the Global domain. That we should create a "company" domain that is the overall containter.
If you have any lessons learned on this process, I am very interested in hearing them.

Domains
Create a hiearchy within "Region" to store regions or other elements you want users to filter courses on. Don't add users to this hiearchy,
Eg. we have a region called "Online", "Europe", "US". That way users can very easily find online courses or courses that are held physically within a geographic region.
We have typically created new hiearchies for our clients, but you can use the functional hiearchy as well.
We typically don't have any users belonging to the Global domain, other that system admins.

Creating a 'global' domain is
Creating a 'global' domain is fine as it doesn't keep you from being able to recreate a lower hierarchy down the road.
I afree with the previous posting where creating regions would make sens for a global company but that will depend on the sensitivity
of your content. If you foresee having to separate audiences by domain then it is a good idea to give it a deeper thought at the region model.
Ask:
- WIll I need to separate content at any point in the future?
- Will I ever need to tailor communication to a spexific group of people?
- If using ST, take some time and read up abput audiences and see if it does fulfill your needs.
Enjoy...
