Updated:
For what it's worth, there was a brief, somewhat non-committal discussion regarding ToolBook 9/Blackcomb availability at the SumTotal Systems TotalConnection2006 Conference.
The short version was that "technology previews" are going on now, beta testing to start within the next 30 days, and availability was still projected as by the end of the year.
So, nothing really we haven't heard already. The longer version is that they showed us the Book Explorer, which I think has been shown before, and a few other features:
- Book Explorer as mentioned previously
- Quick Start Templates (also available now as part of the 8.9 Quick Start program)
- Extended testing and assessment features
- Full 32-bit (though the demo did crash once, not unexpected as they were showing a technology preview version scaffolded into 8.9)
- moved .ini control into user profiles
- internal full support for long filenames
- dropped support for 98, ME and 16-bit DLLS, add support for 64-bit XP/Vista
- Setup uses Windows Installer
- Authoring has 'normal' rather than 'power' user security requirements
- Eolas support for DHTML export (eliminates 'click to activate')
